Cottage in the movie, Its Complicated

The Production Designer, Jon Hutman, worked closely with Set Decorator, Beth Rubino, who also decorated the beach house in Something’s Gotta Give. They closely followed Nancy Meyers’s instructions and worked to create interiors with a Belgian influence and lots of natural linen. As art house theaters teeter on the verge of extinction, the Playhouse 7, one of Laemmle’s most popular, is also beloved for what it symbolizes.

Sixteen years ago Meyers, the creative powerhouse behind Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday, and It’s Complicated, decided that things were over between herself and her five-bedroom dream home. For several years, the house (originally designed by architect Elaine RenĂ©-Weissman) had been a beloved refuge. “After many years of enjoying this house, I decided I should move to a smaller one,” she says, her eyes twinkling behind horn-rimmed glasses.

WOOD SIDE TABLE

There is texture and depth to the spaces with the use of a variety of materials, like natural and distressed wood, marble, copper, lush linens, metals, plants, and ceramics. It has a very timeless comfortable feel, with some organic and transitional influences. The exterior boasts a garden and patio area, as well.

WORLD MARKET COFFEE TABLE

TikTok has pushed back really forcefully against these accusations. They said that Gallup polls show that young people view Israel differently than older generations. They say that they’re not the ones influencing what people post, that the hashtags and the videos are a reflection of the user base and nothing that they’re doing to influence.

But isn’t that just a function of the fact that TikTok, at this point, is the public square in the United States for young people? I mean, this is what young people were talking about, and this is where they’re doing the talking. The way this letter is going viral right now is giving me the greatest sense of relief. Now it’s all coming to light because of Palestine. Reading this letter, it becomes apparent to me that the actions of 9/11 were all just the buildup of our government failing other nations. That was actually written by Osama bin Laden, defending the 9/11 attacks and criticizing the United States’ support of Israel.

ByteDance and TikTok are very much global organizations. And of course, they do have engineers in China. So the bottom line here is that the clock has started on this potential sale, right?

its complicated house

In the REAL house, there is a courtyard off all the rooms in the house. The back of the REAL house with the swimming pool. The house is a square, built around a central courtyard that you can’t see in this picture. In this important scene, the area is set up to review the floor plans. There are no pictures of this area in the REAL house, but I’ll wager it doesn’t look anything like this! I would guess they added all the gravel and maybe even added the white brick against the back wing.

Movies / TV

its complicated house

As a Nancy Meyers fan and coastal decor lover, I’m excited to see the resurgence in popularity of the Nancy Meyers aesthetic, which embraces everything I love about interior design. I’m probably the only person on the planet who noticed this, but there’s a dent in Jane’s refrigerator in It’s Complicated –– for some reason, that little slice of reality made me love the movie even more. Nancy Meyers movies, like Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, The Holiday, and The Intern, manage to make every room feel like one of the characters, with a personality and charm all its own. We enjoy the way Harley (John Krasinski) finds himself in possession of much more information than he desires. At the same time, we're aware that the scene of a character sneaking up to peek through a window, losing his footing and crashing to the ground was not fresh when it was used so well in "The Lady Eve" (1941).

When this stainless steel refrigerator arrived on the set, it had a big ole dent right on the front. It was kept and used in the movie because it made the home feel real. They could easily have placed a photo or something on top to hide it. I love that it was left in the movie, dent and all.

Throughout the movie, Jane’s house is shown to be surrounded by a long, white wooden fence. That type of fence pops up quite often in film and television productions and when it does, it is pretty much a dead giveaway that filming took place somewhere on Potrero Road. Click on the titles below to tour other movies written and directed by the talented, Nancy Meyers. The hallway is bathed with natural light…beautiful windows overlooking the courtyard let in lots of wonderful light. Interesting how the flooring transitions from wood to tile to what appears to be carpet in the bedroom.

(Did you know people are more likely to PIN images with orange too?) Orange made good sense as well because of the hue of rooftops in Santa Barbara. For me, the citrus color makes sense for Meryl’s character whose happy place is whipping up deliciousness. The vast majority of the scenes in It’s Complicated, take place in the Living Room, Kitchen and Dining Room. We get a great view of the living room in this pic from Set Decor Magazine. The interior of this movie house very much has the “collected” look. Nancy Meyers is a genius at making a movie house feel like it’s evolved over years and years.

Get our big stories about Hollywood, film, television, music, arts, culture and more right in your inbox as soon as they publish. Indeed, a sign recently appeared at the Playhouse 7 informing patrons of Laemmle’s commitment to the area. Last year is also when Quentin Tarantino bought the Vista, because — as he told Dax Shepherd on Shepherd’s “Armchair Expert” podcast — he believes “boutique theaters” will thrive once the pandemic is over. Within spitting distance of both the Pasadena Playhouse and Target, flanked for years by Vroman’s Bookstore and, more recently, Blaze Pizza, it helps anchor a growing satellite hub of commerce and culture.

Inside the courtyard, we see a potting bench and a huge stash of wood (behind Adam). I guess they don’t have termites in CA because you’d never stack wood anywhere near your home in Georgia. But for the American political class And the National security establishment, this is a necessary move, one that was years in the making, not something that was just come up with on the fly. To free speech advocates, this would be dystopian, unheard of for the government to crack down on an app with such wide usage by Americans. And they’re also caught a bit off guard, just because there have been these years of efforts to do something about TikTok.

And while it can be funny when a respectable lady gets stoned on pot, it's difficult for even Streep to make it funny for 10 minutes. However – and it's hard to tell if this is down to the script or the performance – Streep's character is one of the saddest I can ever remember seeing. She's been divorced for 10 years, watched her husband remarry a much younger woman, and waved her children off as they all left home. Struggling through a life of unforced chastity, she obsesses about having her home redesigned, just because it gives her something to do.

Hard to believe they built the entire house on a soundstage. I love this side of the dining room which overlooks the back patio. The large stacked baskets, the unstained table and chair, the lamp, the sconces, and the unlined sheer linen curtains. Close up of the REAL house shows the pool area with the stone terrace around it. In the photo below, you can clearly see where the film crew covered up all the stone with grass.

And the legal experts that I’ve spoken with say this is a really big and sticky area of the law, and it’s a huge case. And they really think that this will go to the Supreme Court, regardless of who wins in the first round of this. So bottom line here — selling TikTok is quite complicated, and perhaps not even possible for these reasons that you’re giving, right? I mean, not least of which because the Chinese government might not allow the algorithm to leave the country. And that’s not something that the US Congress has a lot of control over.
